I'm new to hockey and need help determining equipment size...?
So I am taking a hockey class for school, and i need to get equipment. I'm about 5'9, 130 pounds. When i buy clothes, i tend to be right in between adult and junior, so i am unsure as to whether i should get equip for junior players, or for senior players.
Also, i am trying to figure out exactly what equipment i need to have. Here is the list of equipment my instructor says we have to have:
helmet w/facemask
gloves
elbow pads
shin pads
So if you could tell me whether you think i should go for the junior or senior gear, and what other equipment i should probly get, it would be a great help. Also, its a bit embarrassing, but if you could give me as detailed a description on exactly how to dress, it would also be a big help. I.e. if i got a jock, should i wear underwear as well, and should i wear socks under everything...
I know its a lot, but anything you could help me with would be appreciated. Thanks.
You're taller then me and I wear senior. I'm 5'6'', and 135- you're skinny as well.
All of this stuff it's best if you go to a pro shop and try on. Online there are sizing charts you can find (http://www.sportsgiant-dev.com/fitting)
Full gear:
Jock
Pants Get the normal kind, not the girdle and shell)
Shin Pads
Skates
shoulder pads
Elbow pads
gloves
Helmet
You'll also need to get a jersey and socks. Jersey should be a size up from what you usually wear to account for equipment.
However, if you're just doing this for a class, go with the minimum requirements. Make sure that skates will be provided if you don't have a pair.
How to dress. With full gear it would be a little different....
With full gear: Jock first, with cup in. Socks on. Skates on so that the bottom of the sock fits in the skate. tie up the skate, and pull the sock back over it. Put shin pads on, cover then with the sock and attach it to the jock (if you have the kind with the Velcro tabs- which I highly recommend)
Pull your pants on over that. tighten them up well.
Shoulder pads on, elbow pads on, jersey, then helmet then gloves. gloves last because you need your fingers to buckle up the helmet.
And I used to wear underwear under my jock, and you could do that, I don't anymore. Keeps me a little cooler and dryer. If you're very modest this is a good option.
