Help with purchasing snow skis.?
Hello. I am in the market to purchase my first set of snow skis. I have been skiing for about 4 years now and consider myself to be an intermediate skier. I am now wanting to purchase my own set of skis. I am to the point where I want comfort and better skis then the rentals. I want to purchase boots, skis, and bindings. From your experience would I be better off going to the local ski shop or by possibly saving money off of a website. I know I am looking for size 160 skis. As far as the boots I am not really sure. Is there any good websites with good customer service or are the ski shops competive with their prices? What is a good brand of skisfor an intermediate skier?Thank you for any help or advice.
Go to the local professional ski shops, fit your boots to your feet first, spend at least 3-4 hours in them in the shop. Forget trying to purchase boots by money alone. As to your brand and model, it depends on what fits your foot as best as is possible. After fit, get custom foot beds and also check for cants and delta or ramp of the heel.
Fit is all important and the most important thing to improve your skiing. For a pair of skis, once you have the boots fit to you, you need a pair of skis that will support your weight over the length of the ski. The bindings you choose should have a DIN setting that is about 60-80% of maximum for your settings. Hope this helps.
