Ski Goggles Question.?
I need to know the pros's & con's of ski goggles in general what is a good reliable brand and what to stay away from. Also is there any purpose for the colored lenses in ski goggles or is it just for looks. I don't need anything fancy with with somebody's name attached to the goggles, just plain and simple. I saw a nice pair of Oakley E-Frame in matte black with a clear lens for $30.00, I would like your opinions and any helpful comments.
pros-keep wind and sun glare out of your eyes, uv protection, increase depth clarity
cons-some can fog up, may be uncomfortable to wear if they dont fit right, wrong lens tint application can make seeing difficult
good brands-oakley, anon, spy, dragon, electric..lots of em
colored lenses (black iridium, any dark lens with mirror finish) are to help keep brightness and glare from hindering your vision. think of it as wearing sunglasses on the slopes. and as mentioned earlier help with depth perception. consider a sunny day, all the white snow...think about how hard it is to see when the white is blinding and you cant make out the terrain because all the white blends together.
other types of colors (such as high intensity yellow) are to help you see better on cloudy overcast days or even at night.
clear is more for night. think about it. you dont want to wear sunglasses at night, same with dark goggle lenses. accordingly, you usually wont want to wear clear during a bright sunny day.
best overall basic purpose lens is probably a persimmon.
lens color depends on the conditions and the environment you will be in
also be aware that goggles come in different sizes so be sure you research that before your purchase. like if you have a huge head you might not want an oakley a frame
