Does anyone missing 1980th Figure skating?
When athleticism, and springs were important but graceful skating, were pure joy
When on show, after all medals are won, the best skaters get standing ovation and, asked to come and skate again and again.
Remember Russian Igor Bobrin? he never got higher than 1981 bronze but do you remember Sleeping Cowboy? He is not geriatric now. Why cannot we see him anywhere? He runs some Dance on ice show but doesn't perform. I bet if he was asked to any World ice show, his cowboy would get a standing ovation.
Thanks for youtube we can watch these old shows but I would love to watch something current.
Absolutely! I miss the old NutraSweet Professional Figure Skating competitions from Landover, Md. They were also televised. Scott Hamilton, Roslyn Sumners, Jill Trenary, Torvill and Dean, Robin Cousins, etc. Expressive skating that drew you into their programs, with emphasis on good edgework, artistry, and less emphasis on jumps. Then again, there were Compulsory Figures. Now it's Moves in the Field
