How do you sew in the lining of a leather jacket?
I'm making a leather jacket and its coming out great. The lining is giving me trouble though. I'm trying to figure out how to sew it in without top stitching and leaving the seams exposed. The top part of the lining has to sew into the collar. I can turn everything inside out. The sleeves will be sewn into the elastic cuffs and the bottom will sew into the elastic waist. I will then top stitch the zipper with the lining down the middle which is ok. The only problem is the waist. After sewing everything else it would be impossible to get the presser foot inside the jacket. I looked at professionally made jackets and they somehow sew everything in without the seams being exposed. The only thing I can think of is top stitching the bottom lining over the elastic waist seam but there has to be a better way. I want a professional look.
Leave one side of the lining open. After you have finished sewing the waist, turn the jacket right side out thru the opening,
Slip stitch the side seam closed.
