Okay, well im a figure skater and i also teach little kids how to ice skate as well. While I was putting on my skates in the dressing room I saw a lady from across the room and after she tied up her kids skates the kid said "mommy, there too tight" then the mother said "shut up you @sshole" :O!!! i knoww, i was like oh my gosh! the little kid was about 6, then the whole time she was on the ice she was about to cry and her mother was sitting in the stands frowning the whole time, i know its none of my business or anything, and i dont want to get involved but im just so shocked becase of this... should i just ignore it?
perhaps you could try pulling the girl aside and giving her extra encouragement and tonnes of smiles? I know that it's terrible of her mother to behave like that to her 6 year old child, but i find that such mothers tend to be difficult with outsiders and their opinions. Anything negative you say to the mother will just aggravate the situation. Perhaps talk to the mother and tell her how good her child is..quick learner, well behaved, etc. That might cheer her mother up, and she'd feel proud of her daughter and herself. Remember, we don't know what goes on at their home. Her mom could be facing a lot of stress with work/marital issues and not to forget that young children can be difficult at times. The mother's actions are not justified, but still, at least something can be done.
