Swell Ski Boots
could i ski in a few days with an almost healed sprained ankle?

Ok i sprained my ankle last friday, it is not a serious sprain but there is a rail jam coming up this saturday and i want to compete (a rail jam is a competition in which skiers and snowboarders grind on rails). Currently (4 full days after it happened) i can walk with no pain, it is still swollen slightly, and i have pain if i take an awkward step, i can even run with almost no pain. I was also thinking that because a ski boot provides a lot of support it would help. So would i be able to ski saturday without a serious risk of re injuring it?

Hey Emerson,

Have you only been resting it thus far? If so, it would really be a good idea to follow some sort of ankle rehab program, so you can start to restrengthen it back up, and heal faster. If it's still a little swollen, that's something to address first and foremost..

As for the Rail Jam, it would probably be best to skip out on it, however, if it's important to you, you should really be the one to decide. Yes, it is soon, and yes, there is chance for reinjury, but you're right, the ski boot may help protect it. Maybe, work on stretching it in the meantime, start rehab, and then go out on your skis, to see if it's feeling okay.. before the competition..

Overall, I wish you the best, mate!
