I have a threaded rod with a plate attached on one end. This rod screws into a bored cylinder with inner threads. Either the cylinder or the screw is fixed, while the other is free to rotate. If I apply a load onto the plate of the rod (the plate is frictionless), what is the friction force that opposes rotational movement?
The frictional force would be opposing the motion of the threading, so the friction would be based on the u (mew) between the cylinder and the rod.
Looking at a single point on the threading, you could shift the axis to solve for this value, but you would need to know the angle that the threading is angled down at compared to the downward Force (Fg).. Lets call the angle between them A.
Normal Force(N) - FgsinA = 0, since the motion is in the direction of the threads
if you need to find the angular acceleration you would be able to find the linear acceleration and convert it based on the radius of the rod.
